As a participant in all six historic moon landings, the legendary Omega Speedmaster is a true icon of space exploration and a lasting symbol of Omega's pioneering spirit. This 44.25 mm Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8 celebrates the mission's legacy through a remarkable movement that is laser-ablated on the main plate and bridges to recreate the surface of the moon. The near side is visible through the skeletonized black anodized aluminum dial, while the far side can be admired through the transparent sapphire crystal caseback.
Crafted entirely from black ceramic, the watch features a laser-engraved tachymeter bezel filled with white enamel, a yellow varnished central chronograph seconds hand, and a patent-pending small seconds display with a Grade 5 titanium hand shaped like the Saturn V rocket. The intricate 3D hand is created using laser turning, white varnish, ablation, and laser blackening.
Presented on a perforated black rubber strap with a yellow rubber interior and ceramic foldover clasp, this timepiece is powered by the Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3869. The caseback is engraved with "APOLLO 8, DEC 1968," "DARK SIDE OF THE MOON," "WE'LL SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE," and "CO-AXIAL MASTER CHRONOMETER."
